Top Healthy Eating Tips For 2020

Just a few weeks into the new year, and many people are finding that their resolutions are losing their resolve! Of those setting New Year’s goals and resolutions, over half made some sort of commitment to lose weight, eat healthier, or otherwise improve their diet. At the Nautilus, we love seeing the creative ways that people use to stick to their healthy eating plans while visiting their favorite dinner and restaurant in New York even the whole USA! Here are some of our favorite tips!

A. Pack in Protein

A healthy diet needs protein, fat, and carbohydrates, as well as a variety of vitamins and nutrients. While it’s easy to get plenty of carbs and fats in today’s world, coming by protein can be a bit harder. Lean protein, such as fish, chicken, and plant-based protein sources like bean and legumes, can be a great way to get more protein in your diet. Try our house-made omelets anytime, or enjoy our chicken breast parmigiana for a lean, protein-filled dinner!

B. Cut Empty Calories

Empty calories not only add inches to the waistline, they don’t meet your other nutritional needs! Cutting out empty calories from sweetened beverages, candy, or junk food can help you improve your diet. Consider swapping out soda for our bottomless tea or coffee, or enjoy a nutritional boost with 100% juice or milk instead.

C. Fill up on Fiber

Nope, fiber isn’t just something you should worry about in your later years. Getting enough fiber from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains is important for digestion and satiety (the scientific name for “feeling full”). Order whole-wheat pancakes or toast with breakfast, or try our veggie sandwich with mushrooms, eggplant, red peppers, and melted provolone cheese!

D. Gobble up Some Greens

Now that you’ve got the fiber going, flashback to your childhood and eat your veggies! Green, leafy veggies in particular are filled with important vitamins to boost your body. We have a whole page of crispy, cold salad, including our baby greens salad which is loaded up with crumbled goat cheese, dried cranberries, candied walnuts, and raspberry vinaigrette. Looking forward to healthier eating in 2020? Try these tips, or talk with your doctor or dietician for more great ideas and stop by the Nautilus diner in Madison for a great meal today!
